Thrice upon a time

“Thrice” because it’s taken me about three attempts to think of a project to work on this year.
I did have one back in January. I fell in love with it. It was going to be a massive fantasy novel unlike anything I’d dreamed of before… but when March rolled around, I had a half-assed outline and scraps of passages I’d written while inspired.
I clearly wasn’t ready to write it. But it took a while to convince myself that I need to work on smaller projects before committing myself to something on a larger scale. It’s great to have ambitions, but it’s wise to know when to pursue them.
So I’m going to try my hand at fairy tales. Not retellings or reinventing of classics, but new ones. Bawdy ones, with some naughtiness, nudity, and… I can’t think of another word that starts with N. But short stories or novelettes should be easier and fun to write.
I hope to have a couple of stories done by the fall. I do have other projects and real life that need tending, too. What I plan on doing now is some research for these stories. And what better way than to revisit a few favorite fairy tales?
Which I’ll do in the morning. Because, great cheesely, is it late.
